Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

 

Tahoe Family Solutions (TFS) seeks an experienced and innovative Executive Director to lead our organization to continued success through our key projects and programs of camping, counseling, and education for our clients in the Lake Tahoe Region.

 

The TFS Executive Director will be responsible for all administrative functions including staff recruitment and development projects, organizational planning on an operational and strategic basis, fund development, and program oversight.

 

The position of TFS Executive Director is a multi-faceted, challenging, and rewarding opportunity for a highly motivated individual seeking an opportunity to provide transformative leadership and accomplishments in both funding and key programs.

 

The best candidate for this position will have demonstrated an ability to work with a keen sense of integrity, tact and diplomacy with the ability to meet budgetary objectives and lead the TFS staff in producing positive results for TFS projects and programs.

 

In addition, a successful candidate will utilize proven planning skills to achieve goals and objectives for TFS both on a strategic and operational level. The successful candidate will also be able to clearly communicate with the TFS Board, Staff, Volunteers, and Community Supporters, forging partnerships that will foster continued organizational growth and success, helping to meet client needs.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Management

 

  • Assure the viability and integrity of the TFS mission and provide the active leadership needed to secure resources for program sustainability and growth.
  • Partner with the TFS Staff and Board to create a strategic plan for the organization and make regular progress reports.
  • Recruit and train all TFS management staff and provide for regular merit reviews.
  • Annually produce a set of ED objectives and obtain executive committee approval.
  • Maintain TFS policies and procedures within the employee handbook and update as needed.
  • Prepare a draft agenda and comprehensive Board packet one week before each meeting.
  • Hold regular staff meetings to streamline communications.
  • Partner with the TFS Board to attract and recruit new Board members and ensure that a Board orientation is accomplished with each new member. 

 

Finance

 

  • Prepare a draft Annual Budget and obtain Board approval before the end of the preceding calendar year.
  • Compose and obtain Board approval of an annual Operating Plan for the organization at the January Board meeting.
  • Run the organization to the Board-approved budget, ensuring adequate financial resources are available for all projects and programs.
  • Plan, participate in, and evaluate funding events and donor campaigns that ensure a steady funding stream for all programs and services.
  • Be innovative and realistic in authorizing any new TFS project or program. Partner with program staff to maintain quality and quantity as outlined in the annual operational plan.
  • Develop and maintain a robust set of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Maintain TFS accounting controls and contract annually with a CPA firm for a full audit.

 

Community Relations

 

  • Maintain and forge new strategic community partnerships with local businesses and non-profit organizations.
  • Attend appropriate community meetings and special events.

 

Retail Operation

 

  • Oversee and advise the management of the TFS Thrift Store as needed.
  • Assure that an orderly retail environment exists and work with the TS Director to achieve sales and expense targets.
  • Maintain a defined tracking system for TS sales and closely monitor progress.
  • Participate in special community-focused and sales events.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/REQUIRED SKILLS      

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in non-profit management, business, or related field
  • 6+ years of successful management experience in a recognized 501(c)(3) organization
  • Supportive of a culturally diverse environment and staff, and 6 + years of experience in recruiting, training, supervising and evaluating paid staff and volunteers
  • Proven ability to plan, implement and evaluate funding events and donor campaigns
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus
  • Ability and willingness to take initiative, responsibility and work independently to accomplish goals and objectives as set forth by the TFS Board of Directors 
  • Excellent organizational, oral and written skills
  • Computer literacy including the full MSFT suite

·         Successful completion of State of Nevada and FBI background checks

 

COMPENSATION

 

·         Salary range is $125,000 to $140,000 per year depending on experience

ABOUT TAHOE FAMILY SOLUTIONS

 

TFS is a federally registered 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation based in Incline Village, Nevada.  Our mission is to provide key resources and skills to families and individuals in the Tahoe region.

 

TFS is the only private non-profit in Northern Nevada offering free psychiatric care to eligible clients. We are also a registered Nevada Family Resource Center. Our current program mix includes affordable mental health care, seasonal youth adventure programs, and educational programming, i.e., Homework Help Club, VITA, and English as a Second Language Classes (ESL).  For a complete program overview, visit the TFS website at www.tahoefamily.org.

 

TFS is dedicated to being fiscally sound and has run our last 13 operating budgets with positive outcomes.

 

TFS currently has a Board of ten individuals who meet six times per year. The organization has a dedicated staff of six full-time employees, six part-time employees and utilizes approximately 35 volunteers annually.
