POSITION OVERVIEW


Cal Voices has an immediate opening for a full-time (37.5 hours per week) CSOC Family Advocate in Placer County’s Children’s System of Care. This position is employed by Cal Voices, but is co-located within one of Placer County’s facilities in Auburn, CA. Under the supervision of Cal Voices CSOC Program Manager and CSOC Program Supervisor, this position serves as a core member of Placer County’s multidisciplinary teams within the Children’s System of Care, partnering with representatives from children’s mental health, child welfare, foster care, juvenile probation, and/or education services to offer maximum support for families of children and youth with severe behavioral, emotional, or mental health disorders. CSOC Family Advocates are a vital resource for parents/caregivers, assisting them in navigating the system and finding appropriate resources in their home communities. They also provide individualized advocacy, mentoring, education, and peer support, using their personal lived experience to establish credibility, rapport, and trust with family members. Finally, CSOC Family Advocates represent the parent/caregiver perspective on the system level, helping to shape Placer County’s programs, services, and policies in response to family needs and concerns. 

 

Cal Voice is a peer-run, grassroots mental health advocacy agency. Candidates must have personal lived experience as the parent/primary caregiver of a child or youth with a behavioral, emotional, or mental health challenge. Applicants must have functional knowledge of California’s Public Mental Health/Behavioral Health System, the Children’s System of Care (including children’s Behavioral health services, the child welfare/foster care system, and the juvenile probation system), self-help and resiliency principles, and fundamental principles of peer support and family advocacy. Qualified individuals who have received public mental health services in any California county, who are bilingual/bicultural, and members of traditionally underserved groups (LGBTQ, racial/ethnic minorities, immigrants/refugees, veterans, formerly homeless) are encouraged to apply. This position must maintain Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification. Parent, Caregiver, and Family Member Specialization.


 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


  • Personal Lived Experience
    • As the parent/primary caretaker of a child or youth with complex behavioral health needs
  • Education and Work Experience
    • A high school diploma or its equivalent
  • Professional Credentials (A + B)[1]
    • A.  Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification (MPSS) that is current and in good standing; and
    • B.  Parent, Caregiver, and Family Member Specialization
    • A current and valid Class “C” California Driver License
    • Immediate access to reliable personal transportation throughout the workday
    • Auto insurance coverage that meets the minimum legal requirements in California
    • Ability to perform all of the Job Duties for this position, with or without a reasonable accommodation
    • Possession of the Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for this position
    • Ability to meet all of the Physical and Mental Requirements for this position
    • Ability to pass a criminal background screening, if offered this position

    The person in this position is required to:

      • Often drive to/from various locations in Placer County

      • Rarely travel to distant locations within California and out-of-state
      • Rarely stay out-of-town overnight
      • Regularly use a computer, the internet, electronic equipment, and digital devices
      • Regularly perform substantial typing
      • Regularly sit or remain stationary for most of the workday
      • Regularly write notes or otherwise document and organize important information
      • Regularly communicate clearly and effectively with others, both orally and in writing
      • Regularly read, analyze, summarize, and organize complex data, ideas, and information
      • Regularly explain complicated concepts to individuals with varied levels of education and understanding
      • Regularly perform basic math calculations (counting, adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, averaging)
      • Regularly manage distractions and interruptions; maintain focus and productivity throughout the workday
      • Regularly plan, execute, delegate, and oversee activities involving multiple steps and tasks
      • Regularly make decisions, exercise independent judgment, engage in critical thinking, and perform ongoing problem-solving
      • Regularly maintain resilience and utilize effective coping techniques in response to work-related stressors
      • Regularly address and resolve issues, problems, and challenges as soon as they arise

       


      COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS


      Disclaimers:  Employment at Cal Voices is strictly at-will. Position sustainability relies on the continuity of existing contracts and funding levels. Although not guaranteed, future pay increases may be given based on revenue growth, demonstrated skills, quality of work performance, and/or value of the employee's contributions to the agency. 


      • Starting Compensation:  $23.08 per hour 
      • Benefits:  This position is eligible for employer-paid medical (up to 95%), dental (100%), vision (100%), and life insurance (100% of $50,000 policy) plans. Eligible employees may purchase family/dependent health benefits and additional life insurance through these plans. Optional benefits include voluntary participation in Cal Voices' 403(b) retirement plan, pre-tax health and dependent care accounts, long term disability plan, and more. 
      • Paid Time Off:   Up to 20 days per year 
      • Paid Holidays:   Up to 13 days per year
