Summary of Position: Departments at Child Care Aware of America offer professional internships that are designed to provide on-the-job training and experience to recent college students/graduate students. Engages in various work assignments, projects, and activities that are structured to enable the intern to gain the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform at a professional level. The intern will have the opportunity to learn and enhance projects and assignments while working closely with Child Care Aware of America team members.

 

Work Location: Candidates must reside in local Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C., metropolitan areas. Interns work 32 hours per week, Monday-Thursday onsite in Arlington, VA.

 

Internship Duration: The nine-week summer internship program will begin June 1, 2024, through August 2, 2024. 


Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional assistance, under the supervision of a CCAoA staff person, as appropriate to the day-to-day operating objectives of the unit.
  • Undertakes and/or participates in projects and programs designed to develop professional skills and expertise appropriate to the needs of the organization.
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of unit projects and initiatives within the area of expertise.
  • Interacts directly with colleagues, and/or other internal or external constituencies in the planning of assignments and the resolution of day-to-day operational problems.
  • Receives guidance, training, and mentoring from professional staff persons in planning and carrying out activities and assignments.
  • As appropriate to the position and as specified by unit management, may conduct original research, and prepare reports based on findings, including recommendations or alternative proposals for action and assigned projects.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate (or graduate) student majoring in a related study of the department internship (i.e. Finance & Accounting, Policy and Advocacy, Fundraising and Development, IT & Digital Services
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described.
  • Follow verbal and written plans and technical instructions with minimal supervision and guidance.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Meet schedules and timelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information.

 

Internship Eligibility:

Students who meet the following requirements are eligible to apply for the Summer Internship Program:

  1. Currently enrolled at an accredited college, university, or community college.
  2. Student must be in good academic standing with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5.
  3. Ability to provide proof of legal authorization to work in the United States.
