About the Role: 

 

Supports the product engineering department through designing, documenting, commissioning. Provide product support to other BoxPower departments: Project Engineering, Sales/Marketing, Field Services, Testing and Commissioning. 

 

This role reports to the Director of Engineering. This role has no direct reports. The salary range for this role is $90,000-$120,000 depending on experience and extended responsibilities.  This role can be performed remotely or at BoxPower HQ in Grass Valley, CA. Travel expectations to site or Grass Valley HQ as required. 

 

Responsibilities:  

 

  • Will be responsible for owning or supporting our product. This includes development of upgrades to our products and/or future products. 
  • Create, update, own documentation of specific product requirements, constraints, specification, manuals. 
  • Independently determining code/standard requirements and creating solutions for our designs to meet them. 
  • Specifying, identifying, and approving equipment. 
  • Create, update, and own product electrical plans, controls, sequence of operations, cable/conduit schedules, etc. 
  • Supporting in product standardizing electrical plans, controls, sequence of operations, cable/conduit schedules, etc 
  • Ensuring subs and vendors provide a complete and operational product. Includes in-house testing of vendor products and potentially Factory Acceptance Testing. 
  • Ensuring BoxPower product meets quality and functional requirements via developing testing plans and confirming testing was successful. 
  • Support integration, testing, (factory/field) commissioning, and field service. 
  • Support production via technical support and removing roadblocks. 
  • Major player in architecture of our future products. 
  • Managing and implementing product development roadmaps, which includes conduction cost and feasibility analysis based on product requirements and expectations as it applies to products. 
  • Provide documentation, design updates, and solutions to support manfacturing schedule 
  • Working with project engineering and production to track product development and iteration and apply changes to the product documentation 
  • Providing technical support to sales and marketing teams for questions pertaining to the products 
  • Becoming a subject matter expert on our business’ products 
  • Support field service with commissioning, troubleshooting & servicing energy storage systems 
  • Manages vendor relationships for the product development for energy systems, including outsourced engineering and OEM manufactures 
  • Acting as project engineer and applications engineer for custom projects. 
  • Train engineers. May manage more junior product engineers. 
  • Provide technical support to sales and marketing for product questions. 
  • Potentially lead R&D efforts and applying for R&D grants including conceptual designs of energy storage systems 
  • Potentially lead patent application and IP protection efforts for energy storage system products 

 

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • BS in Electrical, Software, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience (min) 
  • 5+ years of experience developing energy storage, photovoltaic, generator, and microgrid products/systems 
  • Must be proficient in technical drawing (AutoCAD preferred) 
  • Familiarity with solar, inverter, battery, and generator technologies. Systems in 15-250kW range a plus. 
  • Strong experience with controls: architecture, equipment and protocol specification, networking configurations, sequence of operations for microgrids, integration, PLCs, industrial computers, etc. 
  • Strong experience working with 1000-1500VDC a plus. 
  • Proven track record of successfully designing and overseeing manufacturing of products 
  • Ability to clearly define product requirements and solutions 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Working knowledge of specific process technologies, procedures, products and applications
