Job Description

For People is a team of skilled technologists improving government digital services for disadvantaged and vulnerable populations. We embed directly in government agencies to modernize software, systems, and platforms so that they better serve people.

Your Impact

The DevOps & Security Engineering team builds and maintains the foundational systems that support data scientists, analysts, researchers and, policy makers working on Medicaid data analytics across the United States Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). We are responsible for the architecture, deployment, and maintenance of core infrastructure components in the cloud. You will lead product management for a small team of DevOps and Security Engineers who are building automated, resilient, scalable, and secure systems to help enable our users to do their best work with minimal disruptions. By improving the reliability and security of our platform, you'll play a key role in facilitating better healthcare outcomes for 80 million people.

Our Culture

For People is a team of humans. We place a significant amount of emphasis on positive work-life balance, setting healthy expectations, and making sure our loved ones are taken care of first. That means picking a child up from school during the day or going for a mid-day walk is okay!

This position is 100% remote across the United States, from the West Coast to the East Coast. There will never be a return-to-office, as we have none!

This position's published base salary range is between $100,000 and $130,000 annually, plus generous benefits (e.g., For People pays 100% of Gold-tier employee health insurance premiums) and annual company profit sharing.

Your Opportunities
  • Lead the planning, development, and implementation of DevOps and security practices that align with broader agency best practices
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, security analysts, data scientists, and government stakeholders, to define product roadmaps and deliver high-impact solutions
  • Oversee the architecture, deployment, and continuous improvement of our AWS infrastructure alongside the program’s Solution Architect and DevOps Technical Lead
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation and standards for system architecture, security protocols, disaster recovery plans, and operational best practices
  • Champion a culture of security awareness and best practices throughout the organization by providing training and resources
  • Act as a key liaison between the technical team and non-technical stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable guidance
You Bring
  • A humble and caring attitude aligning with For People’s values– how we work with passion, fun, curiosity and sustainability, humility and respect
  • 4+ years of experience in product management, DevOps, or IT security roles
  • Knowledge of cloud infrastructure (e.g., Amazon Web Services or similar), automation tools (Terraform, Ansible), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and security frameworks (NIST, FISMA, etc)
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to manage diverse teams and foster collaboration between technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Thorough understanding of release strategies, version control, and deployment methodologies to ensure smooth and reliable deployment of services
  • Ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and understand the unique challenges of working within and alongside government agencies
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, etc) or 2 years of experience in a relevant field

Some fine print. You will be working on a United States government platform, and they have a few basic requirements for contractors like ourselves. You must perform all work physically within the United States at all times. In addition, you must be a United States citizen and be able to pass a government-performed public trust background check.

For People is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetics, and/or veteran status.
