Job Description

US Committee for Refugee and Immigrants (USCRI) Rayo de Luz program is dedicated to providing unaccompanied minors who are pregnant or parenting, ages 0-18, with a supportive, nurturing environment in a residential shelter, daily education Monday - Friday, and supportive wrap-around services in Sacramento, CA. Our program is rooted in ensuring that service delivery is trauma-informed, culturally appropriate, and tailored to the needs of each child while maintaining all program requirements of ORR.

OVERVIEW

At our Rayo de Luz shelter, this position is responsible for the continued development, coordination, and the implementation of the education and recreation programs for unaccompanied female children in care. The goal of the programs is to meet and when possible, exceed the requirements of the required educational and daily physical activities of large and small muscle exercises for youth in care with consideration of cultural activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works in collaboration with the Lead Teacher, Assistant Director and other staff to ensure the educational and recreational programming meets and/or exceeds all program requirements;
  • Plan, organize, supervise and implement recreation and physical education activities for youth in coordination with the counseling and school staff in consideration of meeting program requirements. This may include weekends and holidays when necessary;
  • Work with the staff and youth to identify on-site and off-site activities they will enjoy;
  • Work within the provided budget
  • Responsible for entering information on the Portal regarding each youth’s participation in the program as indicated by ORR policy;
  • Maintain recreation facilities and equipment, as needed to ensure safety:
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday/occasional weekend and evening work may be required as job duties demand.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree or Higher.
  • A genuine respect for and interest in children and their families of diverse racial and ethnic identity and a ability to from a therapeutic relationship with children and their families;
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in English and Spanish required.

Other requirements:

  • Must have a valid California driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Must pass a criminal background, child abuse and neglect registry clearance and other screening requirements including health assessment, Tuberculosis test and drugs test;
  • Possess or be able to obtain CPR and basic first aid certification;
  • Support a trauma-informed approach and therapeutic learning environment when interacting with youth;
  • Possess or be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certificates.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • All staff will be required to have certain immunizations required by ORR in order to be employed by USCRI; Must be able to submit proof of immunizations. (ie: Varicella, MMR, Tdap, Influenza, TB Clearance).

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Satisfactory Completion of USCRI’s Orientation and Training; CPR and CPI
  • Satisfactory completion of annual mandatory training; and
  • Complete additional training as identified by supervisor(s), program director or Human Resources.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity;
  • Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands;
  • Occasional lifting (up to 50 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying;
  • Ability to read, write and converse in English; Fluency in Spanish is required
  • Ability to remain calm and composed under stress; and
  • Quantitative/mathematical ability (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, and standard measurements).
