Salary: $95,000 - $138,000

Introduction:

The California Lawyers Association (CLA) is the Bar association for all California attorneys.  We are a member-driven, mission-focused organization dedicated to the professional advancement of attorneys practicing in the state of California.  CLA has eighteen Sections including the New Lawyers Section (NLS) that share an area of interest in law and each offers top-tier programs, award winning conferences, events, and provides access to outstanding legal resources.  We continuously seek new ways to expand our offerings. Through premier educational, networking, and advocacy opportunities, our members can maintain expertise in their field, build contacts, and uphold the legal profession and system. Summary:

The Sections Team Leader (STL) manages and oversees day-to-day business of the Sections and supports staff tasked with supporting and serving our 18 Sections.  The Team Leader supervises team members, ensuring Sections are properly supported.  The Team Leader supports the Chief Member Experience Officer (CMEO) in executing the mission of CLA. 


The STL collaborates and executes direction with the CMEO to achieve the goals of the CLA Sections, identifies and implements training, process improvements and policies and procedures to maximize resources, and provides optimal member services and results.  The STL offers direction and advice to accomplish Section objectives consistent with the mission, goals, and objectives of CLA.  Overnight travel is expected, with frequency and duration to vary depending on the needs of CLA or the Sections. Generally, such travel will be in the 30%-40% range.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervise and manage assigned staff which includes Section Managers and administrative staff
  • Develop and update consistent and standardized processes and procedures for all Sections staff to follow
  • Identify training needs and create and maintain training materials for Sections staff
  • Present and implement timely and effective training for Sections staff
  • Serve as a liaison between other CLA departments/teams to ensure all staff are aware of Section decisions, processes and policies
  • Responsible for cross-training staff
  • Manage and ensure compliance with CLA operational policies and procedures
  • Respond promptly to volunteer member leaders’ questions, problem-solve issues and follow questions or issues through to resolution
  • Serve as an ambassador to the Sections, ensuring that decisions and relevant information are fully, accurately and timely communicated to volunteer member leaders
  • Represent CLA at programs and Section functions, coordinate Section activities with other CLA staff
  • Provide onsite support as needed for events and meetings
  • Oversee, examine and monitor annual budgets for Sections, and provide financial and budget reports
  • Obtain feedback from Sections in area of responsibility at least once per year
  • Perform other similar or related duties which may not be specifically included with this description but are consistent with the general level of the job and the responsibilities described

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in project or program management
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience planning, organizing and managing projects and programs
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Possess exceptional leadership, time management, analytical and organizational skills
  • Understand the principles of budget preparation and have the ability to review and track budgets
  • Proven success with process improvement
  • Proven success improving customer service
  • Proven success in creating or improving institutional knowledge
  • Proven success in cross-training staff and staff development
  • Have experience working with attorney volunteers (preferred)
  • Have a solid understanding of meeting and event planning and of the development and management of educational programming
  • Possess knowledge of marketing principles
  • Possess strong writing and verbal communication skills
  • Possess strong skills with the Microsoft Office Suite including Excel
  • Have strong creative, strategic, analytical, and organizational skills
