Job Summary

A Senior Accountant plays a pivotal role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations, and providing support in financial reporting and analysis. This position typically reports to the Controller and works closely with other members of the accounting team.

Duties/Responsibilities

  1. Financial Record Maintenance:
    • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
    • Record financial transactions accurately and timely.
    • Prepare journal entries as necessary.
    • Monitor and reconcile bank statements.
  2. Financial Reporting:
    • Assist in the preparation of financial statements on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
    • Prepare various financial reports and analyses for management review.
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and other regulatory requirements.
  3. Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Support the budgeting and forecasting process by providing financial data and analysis.
    • Assist in variance analysis to identify trends and areas of concern.
  4. Auditing:
    • Assist in the preparation of audit schedules and provide support during audits.
    • Ensure adherence to internal controls and assist in implementing improvements as needed.
  5. Tax Compliance:
    • Assist in the preparation of tax filings and ensure compliance with tax regulations.
    • Maintain records and documentation for tax audits.
  6. Process Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency enhancements within the accounting function.
    • Participate in cross-functional teams to implement changes and streamline workflows.
  7. Ad Hoc Projects:
    • Support special projects and initiatives as assigned by management.
    • Provide financial analysis and insights to assist decision-making.
  8. Project Cost Accounting:
    • Track costs associated with landscape and construction projects, including materials, labor, and equipment.
    • Monitor project budgets and analyze variances.
  9. Inventory Management:
    • Oversee inventory control procedures for landscape materials, equipment, and supplies.
    • Conduct periodic inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies.
  10. Financial Reporting:
    • Assist in the preparation of financial statements tailored to the landscape and construction industry.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in accounting or finance roles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel (NetSuite a plus)
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial principles.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
