Context: Sunstone Therapies is the leader in the delivery of psychedelic-assisted therapy in the medical setting, focusing on the development and implementation of clinical trials today, and moving towards clinical delivery if and when therapies are approved. Sunstone Therapies is working to accelerate the on-the-ground learning and operations necessary to approve and scale psychedelic therapies in the medical setting. In service to Sunstone’s vision of Whole Person Healing for All, this position plays a role in Sunstone’s ability to deliver on its vision with Love and Rigor.

To be successful in this role in this growth stage start-up, the candidate must be a detail-oriented self-starter and problem solver, be able to shift projects and priorities rapidly to meet emerging needs and approach the work with the values of love and rigor, which are essential to the Sunstone culture.

Scope: The Therapist Manager is responsible for overseeing all operational and clinical activities of the therapist team and engaging in clinical work in psychedelic-assisted therapy at Sunstone clinics. The Therapist Manager is the clinical lead for the therapist team. This includes overseeing the therapist teams’ clinical work, providing clinical supervision and support, providing direct patient care, and engaging in daily problem-solving and treatment planning for patients.

Job activities include but are not limited to:

Clinical responsibilities

  • Proactively create, implement, and uphold high standards of clinical integrity.
  • Provide adept crisis management support.
  • Ensure the therapist teams’ compliance with treatment protocols.
  • Work closely with the clinical and research teams to create and implement innovative and effective therapeutic interventions and champion our unique clinical approach.
  • Provide clinical therapy care as needed
  • Co-create, implement and lead the Sunstone Therapist Mentoring Program that aims to care for, empower, develop, and evaluate therapists
  • Provide clinical supervision and deliver feedback for therapists, lead the weekly operations and clinical therapist meetings
  • Provide comprehensive training and development opportunities for clinical and non-clinical staff, ensuring continuous growth and excellence across all facets of the clinic.

Operational responsibilities

  • Lead and guide the clinical team with authority and compassion, overseeing the collection of outcome measures, ensuring strict adherence to policies, and ensuring meticulous documentation practices.
  • Foster regular collaboration with the Therapist team, Operations team, and Research team to maintain a seamless and client-centric care environment.
  • Create processes for and oversee all research and documentation compliance.
  • Develop and maintain robust systems, processes, and procedures.
  • Play a pivotal role in recruiting and retaining top clinical talent, leveraging expertise to assemble a high-performing team dedicated to our mission.
  • Manage day-to-day activities of the therapist team, partnering with the research and scheduling teams in creating the clinic schedule and managing therapists’ schedules and hours

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following skills, experience and competencies:

  • Supervision: Knowledge of supervisory principles, leadership, and management methods/ strategies. Understanding of management systems within the health care environment (team, functional unit, hospital). In-depth experience delivering clinical supervision.
  • Clinical: Advanced application of behavioral health interventions. Ability to develop strong therapeutic relationships with patients. Excellent therapeutic, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Outstanding ability to interact well with patients, their family members, colleagues, and staff. Self-awareness, adaptability, and reflection to understand own limitations and biases
  • Research: Understanding and experience in Clinical Research
  • Technology: Ability to quickly learn and independently use technology required for operational tasks and train others in using technology.
  • Masters Degree: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or a related discipline.
  • Certifications and/or Licensure: Must have and maintain LCPC, LGPC, or PsychD in the State of Maryland

The strongest candidates will also demonstrate the following skills, experience, and competencies:

  • Experience in Psychedelic Assisted Therapy
  • Experience creating and implementing mentoring programs

Physical Requirements

  • Visual acuity, speech recognition, speech clarity.
  • Ability to lift, lower, push, pull, and retrieve objects weighing a minimum of 30 pounds including medical supplies and equipment and the transferring and repositioning of patients. Reasonable assistance may be requested when lifting, pushing, and/or pulling are undertaken which exceeds these minimum requirements.
