Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the VP, Basalite/Intmt & Pabco Clay, this position is responsible for supervising and managing the H.C. Muddox Brick Plant in Sacramento, CA. Operations reporting directly to the Plant Manager will include Customer Service, Yard, Brick Production and Secondary Operations; and is responsible for supporting, demonstrating, and promoting Basalite’s Core Values of Integrity, Safety, Respect, Customer Focus, Quality, Innovation and Financial Success. The Plant Manager may perform other related duties as assigned. 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Plant Manager will receive direction and leadership from offsite Regional Sr. Leadership team.

·       Supervision Duties

  • The primary responsibility of this position is to oversee and manage the operations of brick manufacturing and distribution for the facility
  • Provide direct guidance and coaching for direct reports inclusive of Customer Service, Dispatch/Delivery, Yard, Quality and Production personnel
  •  Assess staff skill set and address essential training needs to promote retention
  • Promote TEAM environment by coaching, mentoring and leading personnel.
  • Work with Human Resources to recruit, interview, select, hire and employ using EC-Recruiting module.
  • Responsible for monitoring and approving employee actions in SuccessFactors (HRIS) in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for running time data audit report of recorded time and errors and track attendance via payroll system.
  • Conduct performance reviews for direct reports and advise on year end performance reviews for all personnel via SuccessFactors (HRIS).
  • Make critical hiring and firing decisions
  • Hold regular meetings with all plant supervisors to ensure efficient operations and enhance communications within the team
  • Manage and supervise a wide range of jobs with crews working at different locations throughout the Plant and be able to work under pressure because of emergency work and unscheduled down time
  • Responsible for enforcing company safety policies.
  • Ensures employees and supervisors follow safe work practices.
  • Business Management Duties
  • Make critical decisions relative to production schedules, orders, invoicing and pricing
  • Oversee and approve cost center expenses
  • Manage annual plant expenses / P&L to meet / exceed annual plan
  • Contribute to annual budgeting/planning process
  • Manage month-end close processes for the location of responsibility
  • Production Management Duties
  • Work with production to optimize processes, meet production targets, and grow plant capacity
  • Key duties include ensuring the implementation of Plant Daily Fundamentals: Safety, Quality, Productivity, Housekeeping, and Preventive Maintenance.
  • Compile monthly operations data and prepare monthly reports for Sr. Management
  • Make critical production scheduling decisions
  • Cooperate with Safety Managers to develop a safety-conscious climate and culture on the part of all personnel by encouraging good housekeeping and following all safety policies
  • Responsible for keeping the plant OSHA, MSHA, EPA, and DER compliant
  • Keep informed of all Government Rules and Regulations and how they apply to the Brick Industry
  • Sales / Inventory Control
  • Coordinate with sales to address inventory volumes and production planning to meet regional demands
  • Maintain accurate control over total plant inventory
  • Process and manage sales orders and change orders received from customers, inside sales coordinator, and sales representatives, set up sales orders, terms payer, and pre-lien data in SAP for initial order; delegating as needed to team.
  • Oversee processing of invoices, and returns for credit, credit, and debit memos following the guidelines outlined in Basalite Policy documents.
  •   Managing EDI workflow orders; and delegating as needed to the team.
  • Oversee accuracy of delivery notes, load accuracy, and load changes and ensure accurate inventory
  • Assist in managing location pricing structure with sales teams in SAP, prepare and enter pricing increases.
  • Process Daily cash reconciliation for location and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Provide marketing support for samples, catalogs, and information requests by Sales Reps and Inside Sales Coordinator.
  • Assist inside sales in maintenance and inventory of marketing materials.
  • Work with Sales Teams to coordinate customer requests and to help provide superior customer service.
  • Develop a working knowledge of all products, recommended installation requirements, and product use procedures.
  • Assist in the setup and maintenance of both indoor and outdoor product displays.
  • Answer any questions about products, orders, invoicing, and pricing.
  • Participates in physical semi-annual inventory counts throughout the region.
  • Oversee process for receiving buy/resell materials and managing expenses for such materials as requested by Management and Internal Sales Coordinator, to include follow through on Customer Invoicing finalization.

·       Keep factory clean and organized using 5S principals

·       Attends safety meetings and abides by all safety rules set forth by the company and governmental regulatory agencies; ensures that hazardous conditions are reported and corrected.

·       Predictable and Regular attendance is required.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.                                                              

·       BS Degree in Manufacturing, Business, Engineering, or similar technical trade preferred

·       Knowledge of 5s and Lean Manufacturing

·       Computer skills

·       Microsoft word and Microsoft excel

·       High school diploma with 10+ years of Plant/Business leadership equivalent experience required

·       5+ years’ experience in manufacturing/building materials industry preferred

·       Ability to lead a diverse team 

·       P&L Management and experience in month-end close processes required

·       Customer Service and Management experience in brick manufacturing, or similar industries preferred

·       Requires good accounting, clerical skills, and basic computer knowledge.

·       SAP experience preferred but not required.

·       Requires good reading, writing, mathematical skills, and excellent communication skills.

·       Valid Driver’s License required.

·       Predictable and Regular attendance is required.

·       Lifting up-to 50 pounds.

·       Frequently drive a personal vehicle for various business needs, i.e., bank deposits, regional location visits, maintenance part pick up, etc.
