We are seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join our team in Herndon, VA. This position will be responsible for performing HR-related duties and will work closely with the Director of Human Resources in supporting the Human Resources Department. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: benefits administration, employee relations, training, performance management, orientation and onboarding, policy implementation, background investigation, affirmative action and employment law compliance.

This is a hybrid position reporting to the Director of Human Resources

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administers various human resource plans and procedures for all company personnel; manages the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; prepares and maintains HR related documents like employee handbook, organization charts and employee directory.
  • Participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems.
  • Assisting with performance management processes, including goal-setting, evaluations, and employee development plans.
  • Performs benefits administration to include but not limited to - open enrollment, claims resolution, change reporting, approving invoices for payment and communicating benefit information to employees.
  • Conducts new-employee onboarding - including but not limited to I-9 compliance, new hire orientation, benefits explanations and ensuring that the new hires are familiarized with Unissant policies and culture.
  • Managing employee relations, including addressing grievances, conflicts, and disciplinary actions.
  • Conducting Exit interviews and analyzing data to identify trends and areas for improvement in employee retention.
  • Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions and results of department in relation to established goals. Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the department and services performed.
  • Maintains human resource information system records, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations and compiles reports from the database.
  • Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment.
  • Keeping abreast of HR trends and best practices to ensure the organization remains competitive in attracting and retaining talent.
  • Conducts reference and background checks and corresponds with those not considered for positions as needed. Maintains employment related files as required by law.
  • Advises employees regarding, and provides administration for, benefit programs and procedures including FMLA, short-term and long-term disability, and workers' compensation.
  • Investigates accidents and prepares and files reports concerning Workers' Compensation; also responds to various agencies, organizations and insurance carriers.
  • Researches/recommends vendors/products used exclusively by Human Resources.
  • Responsible for legal postings in the company.
  • Coordination of Employee Engagement Programs including but not limited to - Employee Service Awards, Anniversary and birthday celebrations.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Work Experience:

  • At least 2-3 years of related experience.
  • Experience in various HR functions such as employee relations, benefits administration, performance management, and HRIS management.
  • Knowledge of employment laws (State & Federal) and regulations, including but not limited to, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
  • Experience with HR software and systems for managing employee data, such as payroll systems, Applicant tracking systems and HRIS platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle employee relations issues, including conflict resolutions, disciplinary actions, and investigations.
  • Experience in effectively communicating HR policies, procedures, and initiatives to employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience in developing and implementing HR policies, procedures, and programs to support the goals and objectives of the organization.
  • Experience in analyzing HR metrics and data to identify trends, patterns and areas for improvement.
  • Knowledge of /experience with ADP WorforceNow preferred.

Job Skills:

  • Must have strong computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
  • Strong organizational, and analytical skills required
  • Should be able to prioritize multiple projects/tasks at a given time
  • Should be able to work independently
  • Candidate must be flexible, action oriented and collaborative
  • Attention to details is required

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred, but must have at least 2-3 years of experience in the Generalist position

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:

  • None required

Communication Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written skills, including strong presentation skills
  • Ability to write clear and concise creative content in a highly confidential manner

Travel:

  • N/A

Environmental Requirements:

  • Mainly sedentary; in an office environment. May be required to lift up to ten (10) pounds
  • Flexible in working extended hours
