Intern, Cyber Threat Intelligence (Strategic, Hybrid)

BACKGROUND:

The Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC), was created by and for members and operates as a member-driven 501(c)(6), not-for-profit entity. FS-ISAC serves as a bi-directional information and intelligence organization leading the Financial Services Sector efforts to protect against and mitigate cyber and physical threats and incidents against member firms.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This paid internship is part of the FS-ISAC’s “Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) Talent Pipeline” and will deliver practical cyber threat intelligence skills and knowledge to the intern through on-the-job training and industry work experience. The intern will gain skills and knowledge by providing support to and being mentored by staff in the following two roles within our Global Intelligence Office (GIO): Intelligence Officer (IO) and Intelligence Analyst (IA).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conduct multiple-source intelligence analysis on current and emerging threats to produce polished, actionable intelligence reports. 
• Provide support to the Intelligence Analysts to deliver strategic intelligence to FS-ISAC members on threats to the sector and incident reporting, in accordance with FS-ISAC classification and handling protocols. 
• Monitor and analyze real-time and historical information, conducting research using various sources/tools. 
• Throughout the course of the internship, develop in-depth knowledge of Financial Services Sector assets, functions, and institutions to provide meaningful critical information support. 
• Participate in information security and cyber threat intelligence trainings and events. 
  
  

REQUIREMENTS:

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or graduate degree in international affairs, political science, security studies, or other related fields.
• Writing Skills — Knowledge of basic principles including parts of speech, sentence structure, sourcing, and writing for different audiences.
• Communication Skills — Displays effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to compose finished intelligence reports in a timely, concise, and accurate manner in accordance with FS-ISAC standards.
• Critical Thinking — Possesses the ability to approach research and analysis in an objective, logical, and rational manner; understands biases and exercises informed judgment and initiative.
• Organizational Skills — Possesses strong time management skills to work multiple processes at the same time and to a high degree of quality.
  
  

PREFERED, BUT NOT REQUIRED

• Possesses an interest in working at the intersection of geopolitics, global finance, and cybersecurity.
• Knowledge of or any work experience in intelligence analysis (military, etc.).
• Knowledge of advanced persistent threats (APTs), organized cybercrime, fraud scams, or money laundering threat trends.
• Familiarity with the FS-ISAC, our mission, and the overall Financial Services Sector.
• Familiarity with the (US and global) intelligence community, law enforcement, and other relevant international organizations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This is a hybrid internship (work-from-office: M & W, work-from-home: T, R, & F) that reports to Reston, VA headquarters.
