Job Description

Position: Training & Technical Assistance Team Intern (Summer 2024)

Department: Office of Training & Technical Assistance

Employment Status: Temporary/Full-time/Non-Exempt

OVERVIEW:

Established by Congress in 1974, the Legal Services Corporation (LSC) is the country’s single largest funder of civil legal aid for low-income Americans. LSC currently funds 131 independent nonprofit legal aid organizations with more than 800 offices throughout the nation. LSC’s mission is to promote equal access to justice and provide grants for high-quality civil legal assistance to low-income Americans.

This position is based in Washington, DC, and will require working from an office in DC in accordance with LSC’s hybrid work model. The successful candidate must live in the DC metropolitan area for the duration of the internship.

BASIC FUNCTION:

The primary objectives of the internship are for the intern to:

  • Enhance existing training and technical skills;
  • Learn leading and innovative practices for adult learning;
  • Enhance time management skills while working on multiple time-sensitive projects;
  • Learn and enhance professional skills and behaviors necessary for career success;
  • Enhance and refine existing project management skills.

The intern may work full-time, with a minimum of 30 hours and a maximum of 37.5 hours per week. The internship will run from June through August 2024.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The intern’s principal duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with learning and development content creation by compiling, organizing, and updating training content, which may include formatting materials, adding or adjusting hyperlinks, as well as making other graphic design or language changes.
  • Assisting with curating or organizing materials for the LSC website or social media accounts.
  • Supporting the OTTA team in planning and preparing for trainings for varied audiences, including but not limited to grantee staff in service and administrative roles, Rural Summer Legal Corps Fellows, and any training developed in conjunction with the Offices of Compliance and Enforcement, Program Performance, or Data Governance and Analysis. Engagement in training development can range from gathering and compiling notes to script development, recording, and video editing.
  • Conducting independent research on a variety of topics, including learning and development trends and innovative practices, recent grantee innovations in service delivery or organizational administration, and learning and development tools and
  • Assisting team members with the content development process, which may include testing content in development, organizing data, notetaking during stakeholder meetings, information gathering, as well as other discrete related tasks.

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

General:

LSC is accepting applications from current undergraduate, graduate, and law students. The ideal applicant is dependable, self-motivated, professional, hard-working, and disciplined. The candidate should possess the highest level of integrity and be committed to LSC's mission to promote equal access to justice. They will have excellent research and analytical skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, be attentive to details and organized, and work well independently and on a team. They also will exercise good judgment and be an effective problem-solver. Intellectual curiosity and the ability to learn new concepts quickly are highly desired traits.

Technical/Specialized:

Background or demonstrated interest in training, adult education, instructional design, learning and development, learning design, curriculum design, design thinking, or a related field highly preferred. A high degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word and PowerPoint) is required. Experience working with Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, or similar graphic design applications preferred. Familiarity with using Drupal-based website content management and Smartsheet are helpful but optional.

HOURLY RATE:

This position is paid on an hourly basis in accordance with the following rate schedule:

  • Undergraduate - $20hr
  • Graduate and beyond - $22/hr
