We are seeking a highly motivated self-starter who enjoys working independently while being part of a great team for an Accounting Specialist role. This role will handle various accounting activities including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and reconciliations.

What You’ll Be Doing

In this position, you will be a member of our Finance and Accounting team. Some of the responsibilities of the role include:

  • Process accounts payable.  Enter all invoices accurately into the payables system, ensuring proper expense coding and approval of the expense.  Draft ACH payments, generate check payments, and post activity and back up to the accounting system.  Research and resolve A/P-related issues with vendors or others.
  • Accurately update the financial accounting system by entering closed sales opportunities, adding new contracts and associated products, and deactivating retiring contracts.         
  • Generate and distribute customer invoices and billings.  Post payments on customer accounts and work closely with customers to resolve A/R payment-related issues.  Serve as 1st point of contact for customer billing inquiries and issues. 
  • Update cash management and sub-ledger reports as necessary.  Maintain detail on customer advance payments and deposits and process invoices to account for this activity. Report on the use of advance and deposit funds by customers. 
  • Work with Nexonia expense reporting system to match monthly employee reports to the corporate MasterCard statement.  Assure charges are applied to the appropriate department and GL accounts and create Excel worksheet details for monthly GL journal entries.  Review charges for appropriateness; Monitor for unauthorized or unsupported expenses and notify appropriate parties. 
  • Other duties as assigned including but not limited to preparing journal entries, performing, monthly account reconciliations, assisting with external auditors during the annual review, and special projects as needed.

About You

You have great attention to detail and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. You process:

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting is preferred. Solid, working accounting knowledge is required with a minimum of 4 years experience in an accounting function.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a financial accounting system (NetSuite an asset) is required and proficiency in a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system is preferred.  Intermediate Word and Excel skills are necessary.
  • Good analytical, organization, and decision-making skills.  The ability to complete assigned tasks with accuracy and by designated deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to converse with a diverse audience.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member to prioritize work efforts in line with department goals/priorities.
  • Exceptional work history and attendance record.
  • The ability to commute to the Columbus, Ohio office as required.
