Description

BASIC PURPOSE

The Food Pick-Ups Driver will be responsible for receiving food and other donated products from stores as well as deliver food boxes to clients who are home bound. The Driver will also deliver essential items to offsite locations for special events. The Driver will ensure that the vehicle and food storage areas are well maintained, clean, and safe.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Daily Operation

  1. Pick-up, deliver and store food and supplies as needed (daily duty)
  2. Bring donated food into pantry as needed, and maintain walk in fridge and freezer with food, as needed.
  3. Organize and maintain all assigned food storage areas.
  4. Maintain the vehicle (Cargo Van), fill up gas tanks, report repairs, as needed.
  5. Assist all departments in transportation as needed.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned by your immediate supervisor and/or management personnel.

Special Events:

  1. Assist on special events, community events, classes and meetings in delivering necessary supplies.
  2. Assist in Food Services delivery, storage, and preparation as needed.
  3. Perform other duties as assigned by your immediate supervisor and/or management personnel.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High School education or equivalent;
  2. Must be able to speak, read, and write in English;
  3. Minimum one-year delivery driving experience
  4. Able to work with minimum supervision
  5. Flexibility of hours.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  1. Knowledge of basic vehicle operation and maintenance as well as road safety.
  2. Knowledge of proper food storage safety.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  1. Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License, and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle.
  2. Must be 21 years or older.
  3. Authorize The Salvation Army to add name to the CA DMV Pull Notice Program
  4. Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Working Conditions

  1. Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.
  2. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as loaded hand carts, platform trucks, and grocery carts.
  3. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
